Caleb Smith House
Caleb Smith II came to Commack in c.1817 after he gave his home in Hauppauge to his daughter for her wedding. His new home was on the north side of Jericho and the Hauppauge Road, or better known today as Veterans Highway.
Caleb's grandson Robert Smith sold the land in the early 1900's. Then in 1958 the house was moved to Smithtown for the historical society to use.
Caleb Smith came here in 1817 and settled down. He built a larger house and had a slave cabin near by for his servants.
Today cars pass over these same roads at a steady pace and where cows once stood is now the community green and World War Two memorial.
