The senery of Commack was changing due to the popularity of the automobile. The general store now had gas pumps out front and the hotel added a restaurant. |

The Werles came from Canada in 1924 to run the general store. They had the gas pumps put in for motorists and sold oil and tire tubes as well. |

The Gordans owned the Commack Hotel after Wm. Mahler and later added the restaurant. The Hotel became a land mark for people driving out east. |
