This page takes a look at some of the local residents whose services helped keep Commack running on a day-to-day base.
The Werle’s moved here from Canada in 1924 to help Mrs. Werle’s brother run the Commack General Store. They soon bought the store and ran it until c.1948.
George Ireland (1817-1886) was the local Blacksmith and had his shop on Commack Rd where he ran it with the help of his brother Derrick (1821-1894).

The Ketcham family had a small ice cream shop just west of the General Store on Jericho, which became a Candy and Cigarettes Store. It was begun by David (1847–1928) and Ruehammah (1859–1915) Ketcham and taken over by their son David and his wife Minnie.
Amos and Charlie Harned ran the Saw Mill on their family farm that dates to 1740. They supplied wood for boats during WWII and lumber during the housing boom of the 1950s.
